Originally sung by her legendary grandfather, Pedro Infante, Lupita reimagines the classic with a modern touch, introducing it to a new generation of listeners.
A two-time GRAMMY® nominee and celebrated voice in Música Mexicana, Lupita continues to honor her grandfather’s legacy through her live tribute series. This release marks the first official song from her two-part project, where she performs intimate, live renditions of his timeless classics. The first installment, Puras de Mi Abuelo, Vol. 1, which was released in August of 2024, featured five heartfelt covers, three of which were filmed in front of a live audience.
When talking about why she decided to release this track, Lupita stated, “El Mundo” is a song I first heard in my grandfather Pedro Infante’s voice years ago. Like many of his songs, it carries a tenderness and poetic beauty often missing in today’s music. Inspired by this, we began recording his songs live in intimate settings. “El Mundo” is part of the second volume, and after unexpectedly going viral, we decided to release it officially. With over 300 songs to explore, this project is a lasting tribute and a meaningful way to connect with his legacy.”
The release of “El Mundo” follows a string of viral moments, including her touching live rendition of the song, which garnered over 1 million views on TikTok (WATCH). Another tribute, where she harmonizes with an old clip of Pedro Infante singing “Amor de los Dos,” amassed 2.5 million views on TikTok and nearly 1.1 million on Instagram (WATCH).
As the granddaughter of Pedro Infante, Lupita has become a cherished figure in Mexican communities globally, blending tradition with a fresh artistic vision.
