Miami, FL (November 26, 2024) – Renowned Puerto Rican artist and musical icon, Wisin, celebrated worldwide in the urban music genre, reminisces about his origins as a young troubadour in his hometown of Cayey. Tapping into this connection to his roots, the singer decided to make a big debut in Banco Popular’s musical special, “Lo que nos une”, marking his first collaboration with this iconic project.
Wisin brings a unique concept that fuses reggaeton and trova in an innovative composition created alongside his team, LA BASE. This distinctive style, dubbed “trovatón,” comes to life in the track “Vamos a celebrar”, set to premiere on Sunday December 1, as part of Banco Popular’s musical special. The broadcast will air at 8:00 p.m. on Puerto Rico’s main local channels and digitally through Popular.com.
“I’m very excited to be part of this great special that represents Puerto Ricans. It’s my first time, and when this opportunity came, we wanted to create a song that speaks about who we are and what represents us—from cultural aspects to the everyday, like the lottery vendor in the plaza, hanging out on the corner, the coquí’s song, our flag, and our wonderful people,” expressed Wisin.
“Lo que nos une” is one of the bank’s most heartfelt productions, incorporating aerial visuals of Puerto Rico alongside scenes of celebrations and family moments. The special also serves as a call for Puerto Ricans in the diaspora to return to their homeland and experience the world’s longest Christmas season. Through landscapes, traditions, music, cuisine, and everyday life, the project highlights the essence and pride of being Puerto Rican anywhere in the world.
Directed by Juanky Álvarez, produced by Euskady Burgos, and with musical direction by Luis Amed Irizarry, the special is a visual and auditory portrayal of the modern Puerto Rican, enriched by the traditions of past and present generations.
Wisin has the honor of closing the special with his song “Vamos a celebrar”, accompanied by the virtuoso cuatrista Christian Nieves. This final performance transforms Puerto Rico’s year-end farewell into a vibrant celebration, sealing Puerto Rican identity with joy and pride.
