“It’s beautiful because I’m honoring her and her vision. Even though she’s not here to support me like she would have, she left me her brother. This isn’t just for my career; it’s also healing my heart. It reminds me that I’m not alone and that she’s still with me, believing in me.” – Jacqie Rivera

Miami, FL. (December 6, 2024)– This coming Monday, December 9, marks 12 years since the tragic passing of the eternal Diva de la Banda, Jenni Rivera, leaving behind a lasting legacy and an indelible mark on the music industry. Just days before the anniversary of her death, her daughter, Jacqie Rivera, honors her memory and celebrates her life with a heartfelt new rendition of the classic “Yo Te Extrañaré” in collaboration with her uncle, Lupillo Rivera. Released under Virgin Music Group and produced by Carlos Alvarez, the track is now available on all digital music platforms.
To record “Yo Te Extrañaré,” Jacqie reached out to Lupillo, who agreed to her request without hesitation. “This was something I had carried in my heart and wanted to do for a long time, first because I have so much respect for my uncle—both as a family member and as an artist. I want to learn many things from him, and since I don’t have the chance to collaborate with my mom, I asked my uncle, and he immediately said yes. I felt this was the perfect song for us to work on together,” Jacqie Rivera shared.
It’s worth noting that Lupillo Rivera originally planned to record a version of “Yo Te Extrañaré” (a song by the group Tercer Cielo) with the Diva de la Banda after a meeting they had on November 20, 2012. However, fate had other plans. Lupillo ended up recording the song to honor his sister’s memory and even performed it during Jenni Rivera’s funeral.
“This song holds a special place in my heart because my mom always believed in me and my talent. She constantly encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone. Life happens the way it does, and I don’t have her here to see me achieve the dreams she always believed I could reach. It’s beautiful because I’m honoring her and her vision. Even though she’s not here supporting me like she would have, she left me her brother. This is for my career, but it’s also healing my heart. It reminds me that I’m not alone and that she’s still here with me, believing in me,” said Jacqie Rivera.
For his part, Lupillo Rivera shared, “I think our interpretation and the emotion behind it says it all. As for me, I want to keep Jenni’s legacy alive, no matter what. As her brother and as an artist, we walked the same path and made the same sacrifices. You have to keep working and let her legacy live on through her daughters, Jacqie and Chiquis. I’ll always be here to support them and continue Jenni Rivera’s legacy. And let the music industry get ready because Jacqie Rivera is coming in strong.”
Undoubtedly, this is a song unlike anything Jacqie has released before. “This song was made with so much heart to honor my mom’s life, and that makes it different from anything else I’ve ever put out,” she noted.
The track is accompanied by a music video featuring footage of Jacqie Rivera and Lupillo Rivera in the recording studio, capturing the raw emotion that went into creating the song.
